Samsung Electronics announced its first GPS navigator equipped smartphone ‘SGH-i550’ during Symbian Smartphone Show in London.
With a candy bar-type design, the new i550 that is based on Symbian OS™ v9.2 and S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 enables users to choose from thousands of applications from the S60 applications library and have access to their favorites by using dedicated hot keys. With the GPS navigator function, voice activated turn-by-turn guidance makes it easy for car drivers to find directions while pedestrian mode offers specific locations and directions at walking speeds.
Other features included HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, full browsing with a 128 MB RAM, 2.6-inch LCD, 3.2M camera with video editing functionality, 150MB of internal user memory and an FM radio. It will be available in Europe from November 2007. Read more… »

What is GPS ?
As defined by Wikipedia GPS is : “The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Utilizing a constellation of at least 24 medium Earth orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals, the system enables a GPS receiver to determine its location, speed/direction, and time .”
Have you used GPS in your car ? I have not. However, I have seen my girl friend used it in her car while I was visiting him in park avenue, NY many years back.

Here’s a gadget from Chinavasion that simply blocks any GPS tracking device signal in a 2-4 meter coverage area.
The whole idea is the device gets plugged into the cigarette lighter of the car and soon after it starts jamming GPS signals in a broadcasting range of 1450 to 1600Mhz.
This jammer is powered by the 12V adapter from your car.
The specifications of the jammer are:
Working Band: L1 system 1450 to 1600Mhz
Signal Jamming Power: 200mW
Antenna Impedance: 50 w
Coverage: 2-4 M
Power supply: 12V
Currency: 200mA

Though the jammer may not be legal to use is some of the countries, Chinavasion will launch the device very soon.
