SaskTel are a mobile company that cover the Saskatchewan area. The CEO of the company, Robert Watson, has confirmed that the company are building a 3G network that will be up and running for July 1. Along with this announcement we also hear that Apple [AAPL] are building a new iPhone that will be launching on that network. It isn’t clear exactly what Watson means in that we have heard rumours of a CDMA version of the iPhone that is hitting Verizon in the coming months and perhaps this is the same model that will hit SaskTel.
Alternatively it could mean the iPhone 4G or iPhone HD is launching around that time which is also a possibility.
“We’re building the 3G network right now. It will be up and running for July 1st (with) completion by the end of this year.” In addition, to kick things off when it comes to devices, Watson also stated that “The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they’re going to put us on that. So we’re quite excited about that.”
Of course Steve and Co at Apple don’t like companies talking about plans before Apple announce them, so perhaps the SaskTel company just shot themselves in the foot. More details can be found about this over at LeaderPost where it does seem to indicate they are actually looking forwards to a 4th gen iPhone.
