Apparently the Belkin folks are rolling out a little something for the podcasting community this CES season. The company’s Podcast Studio is a self-contained, iPod-interfacing podcast production device… and not much else. The unit features dual XLR and 1/4″ inputs, a built-in microphone up top, an embedded speaker, and the styling of some 1950’s-space-opera transmogrifier. You can slot your iPod in the top and record directly to the player, thus eliminating the need for a computer nearby — until you need to get it online, of course. The only thing it’s missing is your smarmy, high-falutin’ opinions about avant noise-rock.

The new Vudu XL is the higher capacity version of the Vudu download and play video box. This Vudu model can hold 500 standard definition movies for $999, with 1080p/24 output over HDMI and component with optical and coaxial digital sound. The Vudu XL allows you to rent and download standard- and high-definition movies from “every major US studio and 22 independents.”

Sony’s all for loading multimedia functions onto their consoles (portable or otherwise) to add value, so the addition of VoIP via Skype is something we can definitely see them doing. The feature’s listed on Sony’s CES site, along with internet radio and a few other features we already know about, like Remote Play. So it’s not a matter of whether the PSP will grab Skype, it’s a matter of when the firmware update will be released. Hit the jump for the note in question.

Nintendo now offers music play for the Wii owners. MP3tunes has announced its custom technology for Wii, allowing the user to play all digital music from their gaming console. You can wirelessly stream personal music collection from Music Lockers with the help of the Wii’s controller, for free of cost. This has been developed by Rodney Powers for MP3tunes.
“The Wii is the latest popular gaming device that, with MP3tunes’ technology, actually becomes a home stereo system,” said Michael Robertson, CEO of MP3tunes. “Consumers shouldn’t be limited in where or how they enjoy their personal music collections, and we will continue to announce new ways MP3tunes is fulfilling its vision of giving people access to all of their music, anywhere they go.” Read more… »
