This phone reminds me a little of Inspector Gadget. Do you remember when the phone rang he just popped the antenna out of his thumb and held his finger and thumb to his mouth and ear? This concept isn’t far from that idea. The handphone sits on your hand literally and has a mic on your little finger and ear piece that attaches to your thumb. The EGG mobile phone concept was designed by Roman Tubl and features a unique shaped body. The phone is surrounded by a red strip which illuminates when needed. The surface provides tactile feedback on it’s touch screen to allow for easy navigation.
Connectivity available is Bluetooth, USB and Wifi and you will find a 3.2 megapixel camera inside there too capable of storing it’s pictures on 4GB of internal memory. Read more… »

Engineers at Eyebeam, a New York arts and technology center, are drastically reducing the cost of ownership for multitouch tables by taking them open-source. Schematics for the Cubit, a multitouch tabletop display, are available online for people who want to make a scaled-down Microsoft Surface for one tenth the Surface’s price.

Finally we can all sleep at night, safe in the knowledge that Sony has created a prototype fuel cell system that fits in the palm of your hand. The combination lithium-polymer battery, backup battery, and control circuit are destined for future mobile devices. According to a company engineer, “We have been aiming to mount (a fuel-cell system) in mobile devices and finally reached a level of commercial design.” The tiny power-pack uses methanol as a fuel and controls supply with a hybrid pump, which allows it to regulate the amount of power used based on a system’s needs.
