Duracell’s new PowerSource Mobile 100 could be the new best friend of anyone who tends to carry a lot of gadgets around. It can extend the runtime of just about any portable devic—and even provide up to two hours of additional juice for your laptop. If that wasn’t enough, it also has one AC outlet and two USB charge ports so you can charge multiple devices simultaneously. I would completely fall in love with it if not for the $140 price tag. Unfortunately, convenience never comes cheap.

By using radioactive materials you could be seeing 30 year batteries in your laptop without a single charge. Work being funded by the US Air Force Research Laboratory is going ahead which will hopefully see some cool batteries created.
The batteries are named betavoltaic power cells and are constructed from semiconductors which is radioisotopes as an energy source. They will be small and thin and create a reaction that doesn’t emit heat.
My fear of this is all that radiation sat on your lap… surely that cant be good for you. I am all for long life power sources for mobile devices but this one sounds plain scary. Expect to see these batteries in 2 - 3 years time.

We have already reported cases of mobile phones catching fire suddenly. But this could be the first time when any iPod caught fire. A resident of Atlanta, US claims that his iPod Nano caught fire in his pant pocket.
Danny Williams, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport employee said that his iPod Nano, which was bought around two year back, suddenly, caught fire in his pant pocket. The fire lasted for about 15 seconds.
“I’m still kind of freaked out that only after a year and a half my iPod caught fire in my pocket. If TSA had come by and seen me smoking, they could have honestly thought I was a terrorist,” said Danny Williams.
Apple has not issued any official statement regarding the issue. However, it is said that the manufacturer has asked Williams to send his exploded iPod for examination.

Duracell’s Mobile Charger not only has a USB port so you can power your iPods and Zunes, but there’s even a slot to put AA/AAA batteries into so you can charge them via wall or car outlet. Those AA batteries work the same way in reverse as well—you use them to charge any USB gadgets you plug in. The charger comes for $24.99, which could be worth it as an emergency phone/music charger that you can use while you’re out or in the car.
